Having heard great things about Armagnac I decided to visit one sunny lunchtime in September. Armagnac is situated in the fashionable Montpellier area of Cheltenham, and on that day, the outside terrace was in full sun.
We opted for the extremely reasonable lunch menu, which offers 2 courses for £10 from a decent range of choices. The menu is traditional French, but is not red meat dominated, as can often be the case. There were plenty of chicken, duck and fish options, and always a fish of the day on the specials board. For starters, I had the Homemade Fishcake with Harissa and my friend chose the Chef’s Salad. The first thing I noticed when the dishes arrived was how vibrant, fresh and colourful they both were. My fishcake was complimented by a delicious crunchy salad and the tiny smear of Harissa gave the plate a warm depth of colour but also a lovely kick.
In addition to the six lunch options, there is also a daily blackboard special. On this day it was a hefty dish of Pork Belly with Black Pudding and Gratin Dauphinois. Not for me on a summer lunchtime, but my friend thought this sounded amazing and was not disappointed. I chose a lighter leek and blue cheese risotto. So often, the portion size with risotto can be too big, as though over compensating for the simplicity of the dish. However, today at Armagnac the risotto was small and perfectly formed and bursting with flavour. I enjoyed every mouthful.
We are already planning to return for a full priced a la carte dinner (and desserts!) but I would highly recommend visiting for lunch. Incredible value for fine, fresh and delicious flavours.

We visited when it was warm so ate outside in the courtyard, loved it. Had to wait for a table but had a drink at the bar first. Food was delicious, faultless - cooked to our specification, wine great. The service was friendly, and at just the right level - none of this asking about your food every 5 minutes! Really enjoyed our evening.

We have been to Flynn's many times and have never had a bad meal. The menu is varied but not too daunting and the wine choice is good too. The best thing about Flynn's is the consistency of good food at a reasonable price and very good service. We know if we take friends here they will not be disappointed.

Flynn's even have light lunches and small menus at reduced rates for meals before 7 PM which is popular with us.

If we were to be picky we would say the dessert menu is a bit predictable; the usual sticky toffee pudding and cheese board are uninspiring.

We would be happy to recommend this restaurant.

I am a self confessed Daffodilaholic! Yes, there are a wide variety of eating places in Cheltenham at all levels of culinary taste and catering for all types of budget, but we return to The Daffodil time and time again because it is the one place we can rely on to deliver a consistently 5 star performance.

The Daffodil is for people who appreciate good quality food, cooked honestly to a high standard, served in unique surroundings by friendly and helpful staff. From walking up the steps from this lovely neighbourhood street into the converted Art Deco cinema, the warm greeting from the front of house staff and settling in the bar with a cocktail before being shown to your table, you feel that you are in the hands of people who care about you and want you to have a good experience.

We have been to The Daffodil as a couple, with close friends and in a larger group and it is always a great experience. Our last visit was in June to see the amazing jazz violinist Ralph Allin as part of The Daffodil’s Jazz and Martini Monday programme.

My personal favourite top and tails to a meal are the twice-baked Double Gloucester cheese soufflé (heavenly) and the chocolate fondant and salted caramel ice cream. There’s a great new grill for the mains but my recent discovery was the light beer batter fish and chips –mmm! And, if you still have room, or are a cheese fan, The Daffodil really knows its cheeses – they even have a club for it!

Highly recommended !

The flavours are kept simple in order to showcase their quality. I opted for a starter of scallops in Montpellier Butter, followed by a Piedmontese Roasted Pepper with olive oil, garlic, basil and tomato. Both dishes contained very few ingredients, allowing the natural flavours of the quality ingredients to shine through. Other dishes sampled by our table included the Asian marinated lamb cutlet and Pork fillet and honey glazed belly (amazing crackling!).

We sat in the main restaurant, which was light and spacious. There is also a beautiful sunny terrace and an enclosed courtyard for warmer days.

The menu has several signature dishes like Maman Blanc's miscellany of salads, Loch Fyne mussels and Burgundy snails in garlic herb butter.

Mains to suit all, and ofcourse all inspired by French cuisine often with a traditional English element such as Aberdeenshire rump steak and chips,Raymond's smoked haddock, leek and gruyère fish cake. There is a healthy selection of children's options and a wide enough variety of food that will appeal to almost everyone.

The wine list is French in concept, but also includes a good healthy selection of New World wines. In addition to a range of French cheeses, selected by the fantastic Premier Cheese Company, you could settle for their favourite dessert, baked a sharp rhubarb crumble or something more stodgy and chocolate based for the comfort eaters out there. Expect to pay between £15 and £20 for a main, service is friendly, full of knowlegde and prompt. Atmosphere is fantastic and positively buzzing on the weekend, with a rush of humdrum and excitment coming from the open view kitchens.

Braisserie Blanc is most certainly one of our favourite resturants in Cheltenham.
